Tourette’s/Tics and Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors

I am trained by the Tourette Syndrome Behavior Therapy Institute in conjunction with UCLA to specialize in Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBiT). CBiT is an evidence-based therapy that helps individuals manage and reduce the severity and frequency of motor and/or verbal tics. CBiT teaches skills to identify premonitory urges, block the tic with a competing behavior, and make environmental changes to support the reduction of tics, and has shown significant benefits for children, teens, and adults.

CBiT is also very effective to address a range of Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRB’s) such as skin picking, lip and nail biting, and other body preoccupation obsessive behaviors such as body part checking, and disorders such as Trichotillomania, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

According the Tourette Association of America “A recent study showed that 87% of participants who thrived with CBIT continued to do well six months after treatment. Remember CBIT is not a cure; it is a management strategy. Patients learn a set of management skills that can be applied for the rest of their lives as needed”.
